Wrinkles are an inseparable element and consequence of the skin aging process. Due to the mechanism of their formation, wrinkles are divided into:

  • Mimic wrinkles, i.e. those that are formed during natural facial expressions, e.g.
  • Static wrinkles, i.e. those that have already become clearly fixed and those that arise regardless of facial expressions and are usually a consequence of skin laxity and tissue sagging, e.g.
    • nasolabial folds – these are of mixed etiology (they extend from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth)
    • “marionette lines” (wrinkles extending from the corner of the mouth downwards)

Mimic wrinkles in the initial stage we treat with botulinum toxin type A. Unfortunately, neglected expression wrinkles can become permanent – ​​then botox alone may no longer be enough. To care for permanent expression wrinkles, you should not only use botulinum toxin injections, but also fill them with hyaluronic acid and often also consider the need for laser treatments. Botulinum toxin gives the best results when used in the prevention of wrinkle formation.

Botox – What is a botulinum treatment?

Before the procedure, the patient always receives consent to perform the procedure, which includes all information, including contraindications, indications, possible complications or orders after the procedure. The procedure using Botox does not require special preparation, apart from thorough disinfection of the skin.

The procedure is very short and is not very painful, so it does not require prior anesthesia. In people with high sensitivity to pain, it is possible to use creams containing an anesthetic. Then the doctor uses a thin needle to inject Botox intradermally in previously designated places. The number of injections and their locations depend on the area undergoing the procedure, the initial condition and the expected result.
The first results of the procedure usually appear between 3 and 7 days to 2 weeks. After this time, a medical check-up is usually recommended to assess the effect of the procedure and any corrections.
If the patient follows the recommendations, complications after botulinum toxin injection practically do not occur. Immediately after the procedure, redness of the skin at the injection sites may occur, but it disappears spontaneously.

These symptoms are usually no different from regular injections. Bruises may also appear after the procedure, as with any procedure in which a needle is used.

For 4 hours after the procedure, do not bend down or massage the places where the preparation was administered. Immediately after the procedure, it is not recommended to use procedures using radio waves, laser radiation and deep infrared, as well as saunas and solariums.

Failure to follow this recommendation may very likely shorten and weaken the effect of the procedure, as well as cause diffusion to the muscles that we did not want to paralyze and cause complications.
The result usually lasts from 2 to 4 months. However, thanks to regular repetition, this time is gradually extended.
