Treatment of excessive sweating with the help of aesthetic medicine.

Excessive sweating – as a very common medical and aesthetic problem

Excessive sweating is a very common medical problem.

It is caused by hyperactivity of eccrine sweat glands. In addition, they occur all over our body, most often on the hands, armpits or soles of the feet. This problem is a huge discomfort for patients.

The number of sweat glands reaches up to 4 million.

One of the most effective methods of dealing with excessive sweating is to inject certain areas with botulinum toxin, or so-called Botox. Administered in the right amount, it produces the desired therapeutic effect. Its action is based on blocking the secretion of acetylcholine, which is an important mediator in the sweating process – the kidneys responsible for stimulating the sweating processes are blocked.

People suffering from it know very well how terrible a problem constantly wet hands, sweat drops dripping from the forehead or wet stains on clothes under the armpits are.

Performing the procedure eliminates the symptoms by 60-95%

What is hyperhidrosis? (hyperhidrosis)

Hyperhidrosis is a situation in which the body secretes sweat in an amount much greater than necessary to maintain the correct thermal balance of the body. The causes of its occurrence are various. The most common form is idiopathic hyperhidrosis, i.e. spontaneous.
When looking for other reasons for excessive sweating, it is necessary to realize that this process is subject to the strict influence of the nervous system and hormonal regulation. In connection with the above, diseases from the neurological and endocrine circle, such as diabetes or hyperthyroidism, predispose to the occurrence of hyperhidrosis. Also diseases associated with increased body temperature (such as fever in the course of infectious processes) can increase sweat secretion.
In addition to disease factors, hyperhidrosis in some people is genetically determined. It manifests itself especially in situations of intensive metabolic changes and hormonal changes, for example during puberty or menopause.

Causes of excessive sweating:

  • physical exertion
  • emotions, stress
  • consumption of certain spices, strong coffee, tea, chocolate
  • obesity
  • hot climate, high air humidity
  • hormonal disorders (hyperthyroidism, diabetes)
  • neurological diseases (e.g. Ross syndrome, ear-temporal syndrome, neuropathies)
  • infections with high fever, tuberculosis
  • menopause in women and andropause in men
  • some tumors (e.g. adrenal tumor – pheochromocytoma) with increased release of catecholamines
  • idiopathic (idiopathic) – approx. 60%

Treatment of excessive sweating with botulinum toxin

Sweat secretion is a very important process for maintaining the homeostasis of the human body. Unfortunately, excessive sweating is also an extremely troublesome condition for many patients. Sweat is a secretion from glands located throughout the body. It consists mainly of water, which constitutes about 96% of its volume, salts (up to 0.8%) and other organic compounds (including fats, carbohydrates, urea, uric acid and others).

The exact composition depends primarily on the rhythm of sweat secretion, i.e. whether it is periodic or constant. Periodic sweating means that only some of the glands are active. In turn, during constant secretion, all of them are active. We deal with such a condition, for example, during intense physical exercise or stress.

There are various theories regarding the origin of the specific smell of sweat. One is based on the view that pheromones contained in it are responsible for it. According to another, it is caused by the action of physiological bacterial flora specific to each person that breaks down sweat.

Its secretion is a constant process, however, in resting conditions, when about 5% of sweat glands are active, it appears in an imperceptible amount. Increased sweating intensity occurs in situations of increased ambient temperature, physical exertion or stress.

The process of sweating is very important for maintaining the body’s thermal balance. Its role in thermoregulation is necessary and irreplaceable. Thanks to it, through sweating of the skin and then evaporation from its surface, the temperature is lowered by releasing heat to the environment. Toxins are also excreted from the body along with it.
Sweat glands are located practically on the entire surface of the body. The exceptions are the lips and genitals. The largest number of them are located in the armpits and on the surface of the hands and feet.
